Wines To Find Ep 5: Bourbon Barrel Aged Wines & Valentines

Wines tasted: Saint-Hilaire Blanquette de Limoux Brut, Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Cut Zinfandel, 2015, Exitus 2017, and Cooper and Thief , 2017 Red Blend.

On this Valentine’s Week episode of Wines to Find, Sandy & Michelle are joined by their husband’s, John and Scot, who share their wine stories while the couples taste and share the wines they brought to exchange with one another.

John brought the Saint-Hilaire Blanquette de Limoux Brut, $12.99 because he was looking for a sparkling wine for Michelle and it was recommended by the manager of the store he visited. After purchasing, he learned it is credited as France’s oldest sparkling wine! Notes of apple and peach were highlighted.

Scot brought the Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Cut Zinfandel, 2015, $20.99, because he knew Sandy enjoys zinfandel, and because he’d be sharing his wine story, during which he mentions their visit to the Francis Ford Coppola Vineyard. This wine has been rated at 90 points and has notes that describe it as a voluptuous fruit jam with chocolate and vanilla complexity.

Sandy chose the girls’ selections based on their being bourbon barrel aged wines because John and Scot both enjoy bourbon and she was intrigued to learn more about the trend.

Exitus 2017 Red Blend, $17.19, which is a Kentucky bourbon-barrel aged California red blend. It is a blend of zinfandel, petit verdot and cabernet sauvignon.

Cooper & Thief 2017 Red Blend, $19.99, with notes of blackberry, black rasberry, vanilla and smoke.

During the episode Sandy and Michelle discuss the Bourbon Barrel Aged wine trend and what they learned about the process, as well as the reception of the wine industry to the trend.

During the episode, Sandy mentions an article about the Bourbon Barrel Aged Wines Trend. Here’s the link to the article: https://vinepair.com/articles/barrel-aged-wine-good-debate/
